Kill the Kraken! has been accepted to the Come Out & Play Festival in New York City! The festival will be a boat load of fun, and Kill the Kraken! should be pretty good too. So if you happen to be in New York City, say… around the 19th of July, you should stop by Governor’s Island to check out all the cool field games, and maybe Kill the Kraken! too. In addition, two new tidbits on Bottle Rockets are up! One from PC Gamer and one from Rock, Paper, Shotgun! (the second is accompanied by Porpentine’s farewell letter from writing for RPS) “Bottle Rockets is a small, melancholy masterpiece.” – Rock, Paper, Shotgun “oh hell, just play it already.” -PC Gamer And possibly the best news is that Ben Sironko has been graciously creating an online friendly version of Bottle Rockets

Second new game this week to be released into the wild: Rodent Queens Eat their Offspring. Unlike Bottle Rockets, which happened to fall nicely into both GameJolt’s #glitchjam as well as the Women Are Too Hard to Animate jam (#wathtajam), I made this one purposefully for these two jams. It also has wonderful music made by Jack Spinoza!

The first of two new games this week is Cat Herder. This is a silly one. I created it because I like the idea of a non-permanent win condition: you can win this game, but the “winning” requires constant upkeep. I was nervous releasing Bottle Rockets. Its a sad game, and one that I made over the course of four days with many iterations and little sleep. It’s hard to make a story, much less a game, heartfelt without it coming off as sappy. Yet, I am glad to say that Bottle Rockets has been taken well and has surpassed my expectations. Featured on warpdoor. Featured in Warp Door’s Pocket Dimension – Endless Dreams. “the game had forever changed the song for me. There are emotions and memories attached to it that weren’t before. It means much more to me now.” – Kill Screen “It’s depressing, endearing, tear-jerking, hopeful and devastating all at once.” – IndieStatik

If you haven’t caught on yet, I take Ludum Dare as a time to make something silly. Joe and I usually play with unfamiliar code, art, and design ideas to make games that end up in the wack end of the game spectrum (our previous entries include: Cat Licker, Potato or Big Minta, Zest Boi, Toilet World, and Murder Clown) As of a day or so ago, Markiplier did a Let’s Play of Murder Clown.
